Volker Paulsen

was born in Kiel. He began his studies with Linguistics and Music Pedagogy. He went on to study singing in Hannover, in the opera class of Tel Aviv University and in Detmold, where he completed his formal studies. Since then he has been coached by George Fortune in Berlin. He has also participated in masterclasses with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Charles Spencer and Irwin Gage. He has sung in various opera productions (e.g. Lindenoper, Berlin) and has won prizes in important competitions.

As an often-requested soloist with orchestras (e.g. Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Scharoun Ensemble, NDR Symphony Orchestra) he is also a specialist in historical performance practice. At the same time he has been repeatedly praised by contemporary composers for his interpretations of their works. Mr. Paulsen has a special love for Lieder, his repertoire ranging from the German romantics (from Beethoven to Strauss) to twentieth-century songs and the mélodies of Fauré, Leguerney, Roussel etc.
Volker Paulsen's activities are also documented in radio and CD recordings.
